Leo Fifield (https://www.linkedin.com/in/leo-fifield/) is a Chief Materials Scientist at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory in Richland, Washington, where he manages the Materials Aging and Detection Science Laboratory (www.pnnl.gov/maadsci) and the ARENA Cable Motor Test bed (www.pnnl.gov/arena). He leads material testing of the effects of radiation sterilization parameters on polymers and medical devices for the NNSA ORS Team Nablo. His research seeks to understand changes to polymer material structure, properties, and performance with exposure to processing and environmental stresses using accelerated aging, modeling, destructive- and non-destructive evaluation techniques.
Dr. Fifield is an active member of the American Nuclear Society (ANS), the Society for Plastic Engineers (SPE) and the Institute for Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE). He received his PhD in Chemistry and Nanotechnology from the University of Washington and his BS in Chemistry and Physics from Westmont College.
