Thomas K Kroc, United States

Scientist Emeritus
IARC
Fermilab

Dr. Kroc has over 42 years of experience in high energy physics, accelerator physics, medical physics, and technology commercialization. In the last 10 years he has applied that experience to become a recognized expert in industrial applications of accelerator-produced ionizing radiation particularly for the sterilization of medical devices. He has chaired a committee for the National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine on Radioactive Sources: Applications and Alternative Technologies. He has served on several IAEA technical meetings and workshops. He has organized six annual workshops on medical device sterilization to promote the use of electron beams and x-rays starting in 2019. At Fermilab, he led the development of high-power, superconducting accelerators to be used as X-ray sources for medical device sterilization. He currently has six patents and numerous records of invention.
