Picture this: two years ago, your organization made a significant technology investment, estimating it would reduce supply chain delays by 25% after one year in operation. After meeting many project milestones, fast forward to today, when the new accelerator is installed, operating procedures in place, and site acceptance testing nearly finished. What is also critical to your organization’s ability to independently operate the equipment and realize the supply chain reduction?

Knowledge transfer from an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to their Customer is essential to timely, efficient operation and maintenance of equipment. Often, knowledge transfer is overlooked or ineffective, lengthening the learning curve on new equipment, and negatively impacting an organization’s ability to meet operational goals. To improve transferring knowledge to our Customers and positively impact their ability to meet operational goals, the framework of the emerging STERIS Equipment and Technologies Accelerator Training Academy is rooted in andragogy: the theory, methods, and activities involved in teaching adult learners1.

Our presentation includes a case study which focuses on four key areas of our approach, and the impact of each:
• In-sourcing the role of an Educational Development Organization (EDO)
• An understanding of learner characteristics and behaviors
• Using outcomes, aligned to the Society for Sterility Assurance Professionals (SfSAP) industry guidance, to shift paradigms from nice-to-know vs need-to-know content
• Advancing educational technologies.
