A case study of addressing supply chain bottlenecks by building an internal sterilization solution

During the recent pandemic, there were supply chain disruptions in the United States and elsewhere that created challenges in quickly and efficiently performing Covid diagnostic testing.  Sterile pipette tips are a key disposable used in highly automated diagnostic testing centers.  Constrained access to sterilization assets in the United States (and elsewhere) created a severe bottleneck in supplying the market with the necessary volumes of tips to conduct testing in a timely manner.  In this case study, we will discuss the business case for building internal sterilization capacity to create resilience in the supply chain.  We will also discuss the approach taken, solution provided, key decisions taken along the way and the execution leading to an internal sterilization facility built and qualified inside 20 months.
